Completing specific requirements for North Carolina referee registration will enable you to receive an eligibility icon. The eligibility icon will delineate to your specific level and years of experience. The icon will help identify you as a specific type of referee.

These icons can be found on your personal profile under your photograph. Depending on the requirements you have completed you may have more than one additional icons.

 

 

Adult Referee (18+)

Icon explanation:

  • Given to only Referees 18 years old and older.
  • Completion of Registration and Online Coursework

Requirements:

  • 14-17 years old

Assignments:

  • Youth level and Adult Amateurs
  • Higher competitive assignments in addition to some youth State Cup assignments in the state where 3 referees would be used.

 

Grassroots New Referee (Under 18)

Icon explanation:

  • Entry Level Ranking
  • Completion of Registration and Online Coursework

Requirements:

  • 14-17 years old

Assignments:

  • Youth level
  • Small sided, recreational, and some competitive assignments where 1 or 3 referees would be used.

 

   Grassroots New Referee (18+)

Icon explanation:

  • Completed the registration requirements to officiate the competitive youth game and adult amateurs.

Requirements:

  • 18 years old and older
  • Automatically upgrades to Grade 7 on 18th birthday
  • Completion of the Grade 7 Online Course
  • No formal assessment needed
  • No Physical Fitness Test is required
  • No In Class Clinic required

Assignments:

  • Youth level and Adult Amateurs
  • Higher competitive assignments in addition to some youth State Cup assignments in the state where 3 referees would be used.

 

  Grassroots Referee (Under 18)

Requirements:

  • 18 years old
  • Three years prior registration as a Grade 8 Referee
  • Match Log Approval
  • Attend 2 State Run Events
  • Attend the State Referee Clinic
  • Physical Fitness Test
  • $80.00 Payment for Formal Assessment
  • Pass one Formal Upgrade Assessment

Assignments:

  • Youth level and Adult Amateurs
  • Greatest competitive assignments in youth State Cup, Regional & National assignments and Adult Leagues

 

Regional Referee

Icon explanation:

  • Completed the registration requirements to officiate the highest competitive youth game and adult amateurs.

Requirements:

  • 18 years old
  • One year or more registration as a Grade 7A Referee
  • Match Log Approval
  • Attend 2 State Run Events
  • Attend the State Referee Clinic
  • If Upgrading - Pass 3 Formal Upgrade Assessments as Referee by Regional Assessors or Higher.
  • If Recertifying - Pass 2 Formal Maintenance Asssessments as Referee by Regional Assessors or Higher.
  • Physical Fitness Test

Assignments:

  • Youth level, Adult Amateurs and some Professional Level
  • Highest competitive assignments in youth State Cup, Regional & National assignments and Adult Leagues

 

Regional Referee (National Candidate)

Icon explanation:

  • Completed the registration requirements to officiate the highest competitive youth game and adult amateurs.

Requirements:

  • 18 years old
  • One year or more registration as a Grade 6 Referee
  • Attend 2 State Run Events
  • Attend the State Referee Clinic
  • If Upgrading - Pass 3 Formal Upgrade Assessments as Referee by Regional Assessors or Higher.
  • If Recertifying - Pass 2 Formal Maintenance Asssessments as Referee by Regional Assessors or Higher.
  • Physical Fitness Test
  • Approved by NC State Program to Upgrade to 5.

Assignments:

  • Highest competitive assignments in youth State Cup, Regional & National assignments and Adult Leagues
  • Professional Level and below assignments
  • Highest level of youth and adult matches in the state and national level

 

  Regional Referee Emeritus

Icon explanation:

  • Completed the registration requirements to be considered retired but allowed to retain their State Referee title as an honor.

Requirements:

 

  • Must be 45 Years old or older
  • Three years or more registration as a Grade 6 Referee
  • Registration completed by the referee

Assignments:

  • Youth level, Adult Amateurs.
  • Assignments in some Youth and Adult Leagues

 

 

  National Referee

Icon explanation:

  • Completed the In State National Referee registration requirements and has been approved by the National Office.

Assignments:

  • Professional Level and below assignments
  • Capable of Officiating the highest level of assignments in the United States

 

National Referee Emeritus

Icon explanation:

  • Completed the registration requirements to be considered retired but allowed to retain their National Referee title as an honor.

Requirements:

  • Three years or more registration as a National Referee.
  • Registration completed by the referee.

Assignments:

  • Youth level, Adult Amateurs.
  • Assignments in some Youth and Adult Leagues

 

 

 Futsal Referee

Icon explanation:

  • Completed the Futsal registration requirements.

Assignments:

  • Youth and Adult Futsal Matches

 

 NCSRA Administrator

Icon explanation:

  • Denotes either Instructor, Assessor.

 

NCSRA Assignor

Icon explanation:

  • Denotes NCSRA Assignor.

 

  Out of State Referee

Icon explanation:

  • Denotes a certified Out of State Referee
